The High Point Market Authority Announces New Board Leadership and Members for 2017

High Point, NC, November 1, 2016 – At its quarterly board meeting during Fall Market, the High Point Market Authority announced several changes to its Board of Directors, both welcoming new members as well as recognizing a few outgoing members.

Having served as Chairman of the Board for four years, Doug Bassett, president of Vaughan-Bassett Furniture, presided over his final board meeting before passing the gavel to the incoming chairman, Jeff Scheffer, president and CEO of Universal Furniture. Bassett will remain on the board as the Immediate Past Chairman, Government Liaison Chairman and a non-voting member of both the executive committee and board.

“I’m fortunate to follow in the footsteps of Doug Bassett, who’s done an outstanding job as board chair,” commented Scheffer. “His leadership, along with the work and guidance of our outgoing board members, makes us well positioned to move the Market forward.”

During the meeting, the board welcomed two new members, Scott Knox, president of Priba Furniture, and Bill Wittenberg, president of Klaussner Furniture. Two outgoing members, Abe Elmore, founder of Elmore Furniture, and John Gunter, president and CEO of Home Comfort Furniture & Mattress Center, Inc., were recognized for their service.

Also at the meeting, the board approved an expansion of the executive committee. Welcoming Heinz Kattenfeld, COO of 220 Elm, and Rod Lambeth, CEO of Tomlinson/Erwin-Lambeth, the committee will now be comprised of seven voting members instead of five. Dudley Moore, Jr., president of Otto & Moore Furniture, will also join the executive committee as the board’s new Vice Chairman.

“I’m excited to welcome our new board members and look forward to working together to not only attract exhibitors and buyers from all over the world, but to also keep them coming back because of a great High Point Market experience,” added Scheffer.

Bassett and the outgoing board members were presented with plaques at the October 26 board meeting at the String and Splinter. The next High Point Market is scheduled for April 22 – 26, 2017.
